Tourism subsidies

The tourism sector is perhaps the sector most affected by the epidemic, the coronavirus crisis. The inflow of subsidies is of paramount importance for retaining the workforce and maintaining the competitiveness of businesses. Given this, it is not surprising that the sector in Hungary has received more state support than ever before. Exceptionally high amounts of money have been found for development grants under the Kisfaludy Programme, but the press has reported cases of suspected abuse in the allocation of funds. In this project we will examine and summarise the concerns that have been raised about the way in which tourism development grants have been awarded.

The project is supported by the Transparency International Secretariat.
